Radio Communications
Reliable
radio communications are very important for efficiently running races and for
safety. At HSC we use CHANNEL 71 for race committee work.
Likewise, the base-station in the RC Closet should also be set on
channel 71 so members may
communicate with the race committee if necessary.
There should be at least three hand-held radios (stored in the RC closet ) and a fixed radio mounted under the helm on the RC boat. Each boat should have one hand-held radio on board.
After turning on
the radios by turning the volume control, set the squelch. Turn the
squelch down until you hear a lot of noise, then turn it up again until the
noise just ceases.
When using the radios, start by identify yourself and then who you are calling. For example: "This is RC boat calling support boat #1, over". It is also a good practice to use the word "over" at the end of a transmission so the receiver knows you have completed your message. When receiving an instruction, it is also a good practice to acknowledge receipt of the information.
