For the past 36 years, the Hoover Sailing Club Sailing School has been a leader in teaching children and adults how to sail. The school runs June through August providing an extensive array of classes and racing teams in the summer, as well as opportunities for our sailors to partake in outdoor activities structured around sailing and the water. Our courses provide the opportunity for both kids and adults to develop the skills and confidence necessary to enjoy the sport of sailing. They are designed specifically for different ages and levels of experience. Hoover’s Sailing Instructors, who are certified through US Sailing, truly make learning fun. Class size is limited, so sign up as early as you can.
Sailing is a great activity and sport for all ages. Developing an interest and skills in sailing can lead individuals and families in many directions; recreational sailing, racing, ocean voyaging, and vacation-cruising on chartered sailboats are a few examples. Sailing is flexible in that you can enjoy this interest with many people or as an individual; you can pleasure-sail, or race, either individually or with a team. Many universities have good sailing teams (Ohio State included); this allows young people who are interested in sailing to make friends and "fit-in" quickly when they go off to school. These college teams get many new experiences as they travel to collegiate regattas. Further, sailing is a great family recreational activity that is very affordable (you don't need gas!).
Our Facility
Hoover Sailing Club features everything to support a sailing program, its assets, and its students. The club hosts a well-maintained fleet of 9 420s, 9 CFJs, 12 Optimists, 4 Lasers, and numerous support boats to make up one of the top sailing school facilities in the region.
