Junior Sailing

Juniors practicing startsA Junior Sailing Program has a lot of ground to cover - some kids get the most fun out of capsize "drills" and sponge fights, some want to race, and some like to travel to different lakes best.  We do our best to offer programs for everyone.  Suggestions?  Let us hear them!

WEDNESDAY EVENING SAILING PROGRAM:

On Wednesday evenings from early June through mid-August, kids can play on the water under the supervision of one of our sailing instructors, and with a Parent of the Day on shore. Fun is the only goal, but, if they feel like trying a race, the HSC Wednesday evening series is available, and juniors are welcome to ask for a separate start behind the big folk. Check the Wednesday Sailing Program page for more.

HSC JUNIOR SAILING TEAM:

Youths in this group take advantage of some or all of the opportunities to race other juniors in the Inter-Lake Yachting Association (I-LYA), through the I-LYA Traveler Series, and Junior Bay Week competitions. The team is encouraged to take appropriate level sail instruction, coordinate trips to regattas, and try out for a spot on the Bay Week team.

Hoover has raised some enthusiastic, and successful, junior sailors over the years. They've also had a lot of fun, both as a club team, and as two- or three-person crews. The boats most commonly raced in the junior regattas are Optimists, Lasers, Laser Radials, Flying Juniors, 420's, and Thistles.  We summarize the opportunities at Hoover on the Racing Program page.

HOOVER JUNIOR REGATTA:

You won't even have to leave home this year to sail in one of the best junior regattas in the area. There's a spot for every level of experience, and lots of different boats - Optimists, Flying Juniors, 420's, Lasers, Laser Radials, and Thistles.
The regatta is all packed into one Saturday, usually aiming for 5-7 short races, taking a break in the middle for lunch. Get more details on the HSC Home Regatta page, and mark the date on your calendar!
